Phew, where on earth does time go? Answers on a postcard, please....
I have lots of new work to go on the site but it will have to wait a week or so because I am taking my Mummy to New York - she's not been well this year and its a major treat - she has never been to the States before so right now, as I type, she is probably dizzy with excitement - anyway, we set off tomorrow (Tuesday) - I will get a chance hopefully to look around the New York jewellery scene and take inspiration from that. We set off tomorrow morning, so early it should be illegal. I guess that makes me chaperone to my Mum - I am hoping she will behave herself! We are hoping to visit Ellis Island, maybe go to the theatre (I am hoping to get tickets to see 'Wicked'), go and look round all the interesting neighbourhoods, shop, shop, and shop, go to some of the Museums, and take a look at the Statue of Liberty. I am so looking forward to this as I haven't been on holiday at all this year so far, and this has only really been made possible by the improvement in my health.
There is a major update on my Rheumatoid Arthritis medication - I have found out that I am on a new drug being trialled called 'Actemra' - to say I am better would be like saying the Empire State building is large...not saying I cannot feel my RA all the time (I certainly can today but...much better - I am even thinking of getting back on Merlin in due course). I am due my next infusion when I return from the USA.
The other bit of news I have is that Mark and I have decided to adopt a new pussycat - well, he is not exactly new, being 4 years old but the lady who has him sadly cannot give him all the time he needs because she works a lot, so he is going to come to us - he is a Burmese and is called 'Blue'...as soon as we have him on my return from NY I will post some photos...I am not at all sure what spoiled Cleocatra will have to say on the matter, but after Mark's old Burmese boy Aston died from old age earlier this year, it has left a large hole in the cat area...so we are very excited.
If anything exciting happens in NY I will update the Journal, and I will of course be in touch with the site and any e-mails whilst I am away (no peace for the truly wicked) so if you have any queries plea

I'm working on a new collection and have been making Swarovski beaded beads recently....I'm also in a new creativity surge and I want to make some felted beads...been watching everything I could find to just get to grips with it and now I am waiting for some supplies (felting wool) which is coming from New Zealand, so I will just have to cool it for a while until that arrives. Its been lovely to see some sunshine recently, but yesterday it rained so hard it was like an episode of 'Trawlermen' at the stableyard (without the boats and fish, obviously...) and I am seriously thinking of getting my thermal underwear out of storage - aaargh!! Still not decided whether I am going to run away somewhere hot for a while, but I do have news on my Rheumatoid Arthritis treatment....I am so so well!!! (And its been at least 18 months since I could last claim that!) So....the hospital and I have agreed that we will continue the drug trial for another two months, so officially I still don't know whether I am on a placebo or on a real drug (but if I am well, surely it must be the drug?)....anyway, that at least is god news...and the knock-on effect is that I am actually getting lots of work done - watch this space!
If you do need a smile, take a look at this wonderfully funny video on YouTube, I hope it will make you laugh as much as it did me.

16th September 2008
Today loaded up new earrings, bracelets, necklaces (including children's jewellery) and vintage items.
I found this interesting lecture about the education of creative children:
http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/ken_robinson_says_schools_kill_creativity.html
The light-hearted and funny speaker speaks about creativity in children's education and argues that creative education is not valued.
When I went to school I was chanelled into academic pursuits "because that was how I was going to be of value to society" and I followed those avenues and worked in areas where my creativity was never used - I wasn't particularly happy, but it was the way it was. In different circumstances, I might have decided to go into costume design or start jewellery design earlier. I believe children who have creative aptitudes can be overlooked by the education system to the extent that their talent is wasted....how sad. I always knew I wanted my own creative business; I passionately hold the view that everyone is creative.
